Nate grew up in a working class family in Central Maine. He was fortunate to receive substantial needs-based scholarship to attend Bates College, where earned a degree in history and economics. He fell in love with Lewiston and made it his home after graduating.
Public Service Nate has served in the Maine Senate since December 2014. He previously served two years in the Maine House of Representatives and four years on the Lewiston City Council. In 2016, Nate was elected by his peers in the Senate to serve as Assistant Minority Leader, and is the lead Senate Democrat on the Government Oversight Committee. He served four years on the Taxation Committee and two years on the State and Local Government Committee.
Community Leadership In the Lewiston-Auburn community, he is the chair of the committee building the first-in-the-state public universally accessible playground, to be constructed at Marcotte Park in the summer of 2018, where children and adults of all physical ability levels can play together. Nate has served on the boards of Androscoggin Head Start, the Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council, Tri-County Mental Health Services, and Western Maine Community Action, Inc. He is a past advisor to the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council.
Recognitions of Achievement Nate has received the following recognitions of achievement during his legislative service: Maine Academy of Nutritionists and Dietetics “Public Policy Leadership” award (2018); American Legion of Maine “Legislator of the Year” award (2017); Uplift LA “Local Hero” award (2017); Young Professionals of Lewiston and Auburn “Civic Leader” award (2016); and Homecare and Hospice Alliance of Maine “Advocate of the Year” award (2015).
Education, Profession, & Family Nate is a graduate of Skowhegan Area High School and Bates College, and is pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at the University of Southern Maine. Outside of the Legislature, Nate works as an economic development consultant, where he helps businesses, local governments, and nonprofits administer and finance projects. His wife, Andrea, is an acute care nurse and an adjunct nursing faculty member at Central Maine Healthcare in Lewiston. His son, Jude, is 8 years old.
